Denton, Texas - The Next Austin, Texas?
The New York Times has an interesting article detailing the rising independent music scene budding in Denton, Texas. Denton is home to the band Midlake and given my proximity to the city I need to personally look into this. Here is an excerpt:
“While Austin’s become more and more commercial, here it’s stayed more independent,” said Erik Herbst, owner of the Panhandle House recording studio. With its high-tech boom and music festivals like South by Southwest, Austin has seen its profile swell, leaving some artists disenchanted by the commercialism and higher rents. Even MTV’s “Real World,” mind you, has invaded the city. The cooler kids have decamped to Denton.

Wolf Parade - At Mount Zoomer Album Art is Here!
The cover art for Wolf Parade's previous album Apologies to the Queen Mary is mediocre at best and in my opinion does not reflect the music it is encasing. Fast Foward to 2008 and Wolf Parade's upcoming album At Mount Zoomer... now here is an album cover that embraces the disjointed, powerful and colorful pallet of sounds that Krug and Boeckner so graciously bestow upon it's listeners. If I'm this excited about the cover art for At Mount Zoomer just imagine how excited I am to play this album on repeat tomorrow on my 4 hour road trip?!
